Havurah Program
The Havurah Program at B’nai Israel
provides a wonderful shared experience for everyone who participates. It is one
of the many ways to enhance your experience as a Temple member. This letter will
provide answers to some frequently asked questions and hopefully encourage you
to join a Havurah.
What is a Havurah?
Each Havurah is a small group of Temple families, couples and individuals who
share common interests and the desire to meet together on a regular basis to
develop a personal Jewish community; an extended family within our larger
congregational family.
What does a Havurah
do?
A Havurah can share many things, based on a consensus within each group; their
interests may be social, educational, religious, community-service oriented, and
sometimes all of these apply. They also participate together in Temple life and
Temple activities.
When and where does
a Havurah meet?
A Havurah usually meets once a month in the homes of the members, attends Temple
events and participates in outside activities together. Each group decides on
the most convenient dates and times
for themselves. It is important that each member makes a commitment to attend a
majority of the meetings and events.
How large is each
Havurah and who is involved?
There are no hard and fast rules about the size but groups typically range in
size from five to twenty people. Havurot exist for all Temple members who wish
to participate.
How do I join a
Havurah?
Participation in the Havurah program is open to all Temple members and has two
requirements:
Please click here for the application, print it out, complete it and return the application to the Temple. Upon receiving your application, every attempt will be made to place you with other congregants who express similar interests.
What does it cost?
As are the best things in life… IT’S FREE!
If you have any questions or desire additional information, feel free to call or email me. I look forward to hearing from you.
